The Mamaweyatitan Centre, is a joint use facility involving Regina Public School Division, Regina Public Library, Regina City Police facility, and a Daycare that will replace the existing Scott Collegiate. The project involves 105,000 square feet of new construction. The structure was a cast in place self-performed by Quorex’s own work force. This allowed us to fast track the project while allowing better control of schedule and provided trade contracts the ability to commence work earlier than anticipated. This project was certified LEED Silver at completion. The project consisted of a two-story building with concrete main & 2nd floor structure. The project involved not only the structure, but also adjacent site work, parking areas, and landscaping.
Areas of the building consist of specialized school service areas such as a main gym with changerooms, science labs, a ballet dance studio, art studio, sound studio with individual noise-controlled recording rooms, a wood shop and a home-ec lab to name a few. Other user spaces include a fully functional public library, a City owned multi-purpose gymnasium, a large commercial kitchen, admin areas, common areas, service areas and gender-neutral washroom facilities. A large area of the building contains a self-serving daycare facility. One wing of the school also serves as small detachment for the City of Regina Police force.
Original stone features from the original school building on the site were salvaged and repurposed into features of the new school. Fenced areas include a compound for the wood shop storage, daycare play yard, bike, and vehicle storage. New site lighting was also installed throughout the parking lots and landscaped areas.
