The Wanuskewin Expansion Project consisted of a 42,600 square foot renovation and addition to the existing park pavilion. The renovation involved the phased redevelopment of nearly the entire building. This included gathering & exhibit space, office & admin, utility and washroom facilities, and the restaurant & retail spaces.

The project included approximately 15,000 square foot of addition to the North and South East sides of the building. The addition followed the original construction with cast in place concrete, wood framed structure, and natural finishes throughout. The added square footage went to increase the public exhibit, classroom education and conference space available.

The project’s Site Work included development of approximately 15 acres of outdoor interpretive space including educational and art installations, and soft natural landscaping, concrete and crusher dust aprons and pathways, fencing, and art installations.

The project was delivered under a construction management delivery model with several phases and tender packages. The construction of this project safely took place in phases to allow the park to remain open to the public.

Further, the project’s finances evolved during the duration of the project. It was anticipated that the scope of work would expand as funding became available. Therefore, we developed accurate budgets prior to design, which were successfully used to carry the project to completion.

The project was completed over a year ahead of schedule and about $500,000 below budget.
